Trail Report

General Report - (Last updated: 03/15/2009):
Hello  Sled Heads, it is with sadness I write this, because I shouldn't have to. But here goes... Apparently we have more then just mistaken and uninformed sledders in Hermon this year, we also have a few who are causing deliberate destruction and threatening the use of our trails.
Let me tell you about some of the destruction and abuse of the land & trails that we have been dealing with this year.

1.  Cathy's bridge, Fuller Road:  This bridge was named in memory of Cathy Basque who was tragically killed in a motorcycle accident. Cathy live in the house near the bridge. What kind of person would be so disrespectful to spray paint it with obscenities ?
2.  Patten field  ITS  84 and the junction to the store. You deliberately bulldozed the signs that took us hours to make and put up. Why?
3.   Trail 7 at the Union St. crossing ; Despite the fact we put up caution signs you continued to run over the landowners apple trees, that are located completely off the groomed trail, not once but three times !  This landowner has been a tremendous supporter of this club however, we just had a conversation and this trail could be shut off next year, unless he is able to protect his investment.  The landowners are generous enough to let us use their land ,why do you continuously abuse this privilege ?
4.   Morgan Hill , Rt 2  &  Evergreen Drive on 84 , after Annis Road , by the pond berms. Despite the fact that I have put up  "No Snowmobiling " signs you have ignored them, run over  them ,or ridden right up to and or around  them. What part of " No Snowmobiling"  do you not understand ? Stay off the berms everywhere.  It is hard enough to re route trails due to development, why do you want to make it even harder for us?

The land the trials are on is not yours to use as a racetrack, show some respect. Stop running over signs at road crossings and junctions ,this could be dangerous to those passing behind you who are unfamiliar with the trails, as well as a waste of time for us to keep replacing them .I can assure you that I will not stop until I find out who is doing these things. The Police and Wardens are involved and we will be visiting the schools in the future. If someone out there has any information about these incidents, please let us know. Although you pay a parking fee to take your sleds to school, it is still a privilege, if you don't want to lose it smarten up!I hope your listening, slow down & show some respect, before you hurt yourself or someone else, your life depends on it, your parents need to know what is going on, and finally our sledding enjoyment depends on it.

Trailmaster writes in to say: There are slush ponds on some of the trails. Trail 3 has opened up. Grooming will stop in some areas. Avoid ponds and lakes.

Hello All,
A huge thanks goes out to all who stopped in and patronized the club this past weekend. The trails were flooded with people and multiple grooming crews did their part to try and leave no one disappointed. Thanks for the late nights and dedicated volunteer hours of service. The club would also like to thank the new members that have stepped to the front and got involved. The following are a few reminders we wish riders would keep in mind to help make the system flow smoothly.

The large mounds at Morgan Hill Estates and after trail 9 junction on 84 ARE NOT snowmobile trail! Please stay off! It is all of us that face trail closure!
Please do not spin and route up the trails through the woods. (Unless you like rough trails!) If you feel you must route up the trail, do it in the fields where there is snow to fill holes!
If you see a safety problem or a suggestion of how to make the trails better, let us know. We want it to be best too! We cant fix what we don't know is broke!
Come down and join us and make a good thing better. We are still trying to set a new membership record.
Grooming crews will again be out clean up and prep for next weekend pending the chance for snow.

Enjoy what we have out there as time is flying!                Ride Safe and Keep to the right!

01/26/2009:
After a couple nights of blood, sweat and tears, the groomer has made it to the pond and trail 5 has been completed. Also a couple episodes of the "Kevin + Nick at Night Show" have made reports of the tower trail the "Best Ever!" Thanks for all that have chosen to step to the plate and get involved! Trails range from good to very good to great with the exception of ITS 84 which falls victim of seriously heavy traffic through out the weekend. Thanks to all that stopped into the club and joined to help make it fun! It is scheduled just as soon as someone is available to groom it up!
Here's another note: Save the throttle for the fields and the tight twisties in the woods will hold together longer!

Thanks all and be safe!

1/11/2009:
Hello all PSC trail riders,

The town has been groomed in all locations except for the following places:

  • Trail 5 from the Bog Road to the pond

  • Trail 9 from the pond to the junction of trail 9 at the Newburg Road near the train truss.

ITS- 84 and ITS-82 were done either Friday or Saturday and Trail 3, 4, 5,7, 8, 9, the tower trail, as well as the store have been hit too. Please bear in mind that there is only 4 inches of snow in the fields and it is very boney! The woods did seem to withstand the rain better but still have early season riding conditions. While we may get a couple of inches of snow on Sunday, we really could use another 5-6 before it will be proactive to groom again. Any trail that was groomed did not leave enough snow to pull into the trail to justify going out again. Do your snow dances people!

If you venture out, please keep the following in mind:

  • The money for a club membership helps make the system keep going. If your not a member of a club, then please don't make comments on the trail conditions.

  • Registering your sled also helps.

  • Please stay on the trails as marked! This can not be stressed enough! Landowners of the land have provided permission for riders to be ON the trail- not off the trail. You don't take your car down the sidewalk do you?

  • Stay off the apartment lawns near the store.Stay off the burm at the Morgan Hill Events Center.

  • If you see a missing sign or have a suggestion of where there should be one, contact a member.

We want it to be the best around. The clubhouse will be open Saturdays from approx. 8 to 4 pm or when the open sign is on and the flag out. Lets all help and make it better! Thank you all and be safe.
